THE REOPENING OF CLASSES IS DELAYED FOR MONDAY, October 03, 2022.
Since the end of the last school year, the economic situation in Haiti has worsened. The significant appreciation of the U.S. dollar has only made the situation worse. Food prices have doubled and even tripled for some. Petroleum products are becoming increasingly scarce and the few people who can find them are selling them at exorbitant prices. This has led to a monstrous increase in prices in public transport.
It goes without saying that because of this exaggerated high cost of living, poverty in the country has become much more important. Parents are struggling to make ends meet, but they are desperate.
Back to school was scheduled for Monday, September 5. But with all these economic annoyances, the Haitian government realized that it was impossible for most parents to be able to respond present so early. That is why he decided to extend the start date to one month, on October 3, 2022, promising to do everything necessary to ensure that the new calendar is meticulously respected.
We, at Development for Freedom International, believe in education because we are convinced that a better future is possible for Haiti only if children can have access to education. And it is almost impossible to study if all the necessities are not reunited. We, DFI, are on the ground trying to reunite those conditions. But we can’t do anything without your help. The children need you; Haiti needs you.
