AGAPE Childrens' Home

For the past 10 years, DFI has helped rehabilitate and house over 110 children. DFI now houses over 60 children in the process of reunification with family and the community, and rehabilitation from severe trauma experienced during life on the streets.  Following the acts of service performed by of Jesus, DFI’s ministry is primary constituted with the method of “Teaching, Preaching, and Healing” and have dedicated the past 10 years to serving some of the most vulnerable child populations in Haiti.

Our girl’s home is houses 27 girls ranging from ages 2 years old to 19 years old. In 2020, Helen Kim visited a local orphanage and asked if there was anything she could do to help on behalf of the children living in the orphanage. The girls living in that orphanage were placed in the care of DFI shortly after where it became known that the girls suffered physical and sexual abuse during their time spent in the orphanage. Agape Girls Home also came to house 3 teenager’s who became pregnant after sexual exploitation on the streets, often working as sex workers. Our girl’s homes functions to provide a safe, empowering environment where they can receive extensive counseling services, medical treatment, an education, and develop spiritually in their walk with Christ. We are currently raising funds to create a “Girls in Tech” program that allows for the young women in our Agape Girls Home to learn tech skills, like computer graphics, tech support/IT, and engineering. Our goal is to provide training and an education that will allow for these girls to become financially independent women who support themselves and are dedicated to helping develop Haiti.

Agape Boys Home, is home to 67 young men and boys aged 7 to 24 years of age and separated between teens and younger children into two homes. Agape Home for boys is a rehabilitation center where we  focus on rehabilitating former street kids who are often susceptible to violence, recruitment by gangs, several have survived being shot, and many have lost one or both parents to gang violence.  As a result of being exposed to extreme violence at a young age, many of our children suffer from trauma related symptoms, like PTSD, aggression, attachment disorders, depression, and anxiety. Our first group of street boys, who came to DFI 10 years ago, now work as mentors to the current boys living in Agape. Our mentorship program works towards preventing gang recruitment of children while rehabilitating young men and boys forced into gangs through counseling services and spiritually based peer-mentor workshops.  Our Agape Program for boys includes a fast-track education program that allows for them to complete elementary level schooling in three years or less so they can pursue a higher level of education and catch up to their peers academically.

It is our goal to meet the emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of each individual child that comes into our care. Our Agape Home Programs offers each child the opportunity to receive an education, after school tutoring, workshops focused on professional development, daily spiritual guidance, and weekly prayer groups. We want to encourage children to learn, develop confidence, and create a relationship.

MONTROUIS SCHOOL

Schools in Haiti operate on a yearly tuition, paid for by the families of each  student who wishes to attend. Many families struggle financially to send their children to school or afford proper materials and uniforms. Our School is located in Montrouis, Haiti, hosting students from kindergarten through elementary levels. We are thankful to be able to provide a basic quality education to children in this area, to children who otherwise would be unable to attend school. We believe that education is a powerful tool for fighting poverty and structural violence.
